Softball Recap: Dunlap's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Dunlap had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Pekin Dragons by a score of 6-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-0 back in April.

Kaitlyn Atkinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gabby Drake, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madilynn Ramos, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Dunlap lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Dunlap's record now sits at 19-4. As for Pekin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Dunlap will challenge rival Limestone at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Eagles' favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while the Rockets have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, Pekin is set to square off against their familiar foe Washington at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
