Basketball Recap: Florida Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Faith Sumner and Kianny Gil

Florida Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 38-29 to the Divine Savior Academy Sharks. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sharks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Florida Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kianny Gil, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 17 points along with five steals and four blocks, and Faith Sumner, who posted eight points.

Divine Savior Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Evie Hoppe led the charge by putting up six points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Hoppe a new career-high. Gabby Gallego was another key player, posting 13 points and five steals.

Florida Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Divine Savior Academy, their record is now 4-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Florida Christian will venture away from home to face off against Don Soffer Aventura at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Divine Savior Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against Gulliver Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
