Preview: Wauconda Bulldogs vs. Grant Community Bulldogs
Wauconda is 8-2 against Grant Community since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Wauconda Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grant Community Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wauconda entered their tilt with Grayslake North with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Everything went Wauconda's way against Grayslake North on Friday as Wauconda made off with a 32-7 win. Given Wauconda's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Grayslake North is ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Connor Vanselow got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Vanselow hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Logan Olsen, who rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Grant Community was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past North Chicago 46-6 at home. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Grant Community had established a 37 point advantage.
Grant Community found their leader in underclassman Matthew Gipson, who threw for 159 yards and four touchdowns. Tyler Zdon was another key contributor, rushing for 97 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Wauconda's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Grayslake North, North Chicago, and Lakes. As for Grant Community, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Wauconda skirted past Grant Community 27-24 in their previous meeting back in September. Does Wauconda have another victory up their sleeve, or will Grant Community turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
