Baseball Game Preview: Freedom Patriots vs. Ashe County Huskies

Freedom hasn't had much luck against Ashe County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Patriots will be playing at home against the Huskies at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Freedom is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against South Caldwell, falling 7-1.

Meanwhile, Ashe County might've scored the first runs on Wednesday, but it was Hibriten who claimed the real prize. The Huskies fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3. The loss continues a trend for the Huskies in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost four in a row.

Kye Pennington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gavin Eller and Drew Cheek did some serious damage despite the final result: Eller scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Cheek scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Ashe County's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Freedom, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
