Basketball Recap: Kosi Igwebuike's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cypress Woods over Cypress Ranch

Cypress Woods lost against Cypress Ranch back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Cypress Woods Wildcats fell 31-24 to the Cypress Ranch Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while the Mustangs are ranked 120th).

Cypress Woods lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kosi Igwebuike, who posted five points along with 17 rebounds and three steals. That's the most boards Igwebuike has posted since back in January of 2024. Erin Authorlee was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, Cypress Woods smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Leading Cypress Ranch to victory were Averie Steele and Anaiah White. Steele almost dropped a double-double on 14 rebounds and nine blocks, while White earned nine points. With that strong performance, Steele is now averaging an impressive 2 blocks per game.

Cypress Woods is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 17-16. As for Cypress Ranch, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season.

Cypress Woods didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-30 victory against Cypress Park on the 1st. Cypress Ranch has also already played their next match, a 40-34 win against Bridgeland on the 1st.
