Preview: Burke County Bears vs. Perry Panthers
The Burke County Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Perry Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Burke County at home against Southeast Bulloch as the squad secured a 42-14 win. Given Burke County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while Southeast Bulloch is ranked 209th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Burke County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was A'merre Williams, who rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Williams was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards. Ronderius Gray did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Perry humbled West Laurens with a 55-7 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Perry just coasted through the last quarter.
Corrion Daniels was on fire: he rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Another player making a difference was Dakarai Anderson, who gained 70 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 8-2.
