Softball Preview: Loris Lions vs. Dillon Wildcats
A feisty cat fight will be fought as Loris Lions challenge Dillon Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Dillon will be up against a hot Loris squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Loris' way against Waccamaw on Thursday as Loris made off with a 10-1 victory. Jessie Cartrette was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Cartrette was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Caitie Black was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenzie McCoy, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dillon). They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Marlboro County on Friday. The Wildcats not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024.
Loris pushed their record up to 7-5-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Dillon, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-8-1.
Loris couldn't quite finish off Dillon when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can Loris avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
