Softball Preview: Rock Island Rocks vs. Moline Maroons
The Rock Island Rocks have the luxury of staying home for another game and will welcome the Moline Maroons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Last Wednesday, Rock Island narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Erie-Prophetstown 3-1.
A'rion Lonergan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Lonergan was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and a double.
Lonergan wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grace Vidmar, who went 1-for-3 with a triple, a run, and an RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but two weeks ago Moline sidestepped Sherrard for a 7-5 victory.
The team relied heavily on Alaina Diaz, who went 2-for-4 with two triples and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Dennis, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Rock Island now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Moline, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
