Softball Recap: Mascoutah Takes a Loss

If Mascoutah was feeling good fresh off their 12-3 takedown of Belleville West on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Indians fell 12-7 to the Civic Memorial Eagles on Monday. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Callie Kunz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Shea Groves, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.

Mascoutah's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Civic Memorial, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mascoutah will venture away from home to challenge Jersey at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Civic Memorial, they will head out to face off against Waterloo at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
