Baseball Recap: Fernandina Beach Drops Highest Score of Season Against Benedictine

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fernandina Beach). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Benedictine Cadets a 15-0 shutout on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Trace Farmer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Fernandina Beach got a massive performance out of Tanner Jones, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, Jones posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Eli Salyer was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

Fernandina Beach always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fernandina Beach's win bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Benedictine, they dropped their record down to 12-12 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fernandina Beach will head out to take on Tocoi Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Benedictine, they will venture away from home to square off against Ware County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
