Softball Recap: Russell Comes Up Short

Russell extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Capital Bruins. The Rustlers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bruins earlier this season, when they won 12-1.

Russell saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Myli Adams, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one double. Taylor Thompson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Capital, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Capital's side, not much got past Calyse Hendrix, who gave up just six hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Russell off the board. Hendrix has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Russell will take on Billings Senior at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rustlers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Broncs have averaged an impressive 12.1 runs per game this season. As for Capital, they will face off against Flathead at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
