West Florida extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 12-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Niceville Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 back in February.
Leianna Wagner was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Macey Vegas, who went 4-for-6 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
As for Niceville, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.
On Niceville's side, Chloe Bailey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Bailey has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Niceville let Brenna Cooke and Briana Noles run wild. Cooke went 4-for-6 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Noles got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run. That double was Cooke's first of the season. Anabelle Shackelford was another key player, going 1-for-6 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
West Florida has already played their next contest, a 13-0 win against Pensacola on the 29th. As for Niceville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 10-0 victory against Mosley on the 28th.
