Lake Wales has gone 9-1 against Lake Region recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lake Wales Highlanders will look to defend their home field against the Lake Region Thunder at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Lake Wales' victory against Avon Park wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Lake Wales had just enough and edged out Avon Park 3-2 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Max Seidl tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Lake Wales' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Levi Cutts, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that Cutts hit this season.
Lake Wales hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Lake Region got the win against Frostproof on Thursday by a conclusive 14-4. Considering the Thunder have won five games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Yadiel Echeverria and Dan Colon did most of the damage at the plate: Echeverria scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Colon scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Colon has become a key player for Lake Region: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. Gage Calcutt was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Lake Wales' victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Lake Region, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Lake Wales took their victory against Lake Region in their previous meeting on Friday by a conclusive 18-3. Does Lake Wales have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Region turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
