Basketball Recap: Rock Hill's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Rock Hill lost against Catawba Ridge back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Rock Hill Bearcats fell to the Catawba Ridge Copperheads 56-50. The Bearcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Rock Hill lost, don't look at Kyriq Dickens. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Deionne Robertson, who earned three points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Rock Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Catawba Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mark Caslaru led the charge by putting up ten points along with six boards and three blocks. Caslaru has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last 17 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Preston Heffner, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds.

Rock Hill's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-11. As for Catawba Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Rock Hill Bearcats duke it out with the Blacksburg Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Catawba Ridge, they will square off against Clover at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Clover is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.9 points per game this season.
