Baseball Recap: Everglades City Takes a Loss

Everglades City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against the Naples Classical Academy, falling 9-3.

Damien Stokes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. He also got a hit, marking his first of the season. Hunter Irizarry was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Everglades City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Everglades City's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Naples Classical, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 1-4 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Everglades City will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on The Village School of Naples at 5:30 p.m. on March 31st. As for Naples Classical, they will take on Mason Classical Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mason Classical Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14 runs per game on average), something Naples Classical will no doubt try to take advantage of.
