Softball Recap: Williston Makes It Six in a Row at Home

Williston had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Gainesville on Friday. The Williston Red Devils put the hurt on the Gainesville Hurricanes with a sharp 11-4 victory. Considering the Red Devils' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

The team relied heavily on Luna Asencion, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Bertrand, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Williston pushed their record up to 2-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs over those games. As for Gainesville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Williston will venture away from home to take on Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gainesville, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Suwannee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
