Basketball Recap: Jadyn Barron's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Trinidad over Sargent

If Trinidad was feeling good fresh off their 46-10 takedown of Dolores Huerta Prep last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trinidad Miners took a 49-31 bruising from the Sargent Farmers on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Miners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Farmers are ranked 80th).

Several Miners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jadyn Barron, who posted six points.

Sargent was led to victory by Angelise Garcia and Kandace Pargin. Garcia almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine blocks, while Pargin went 6-for-14 to rack up 15 points and eight steals. Garcia has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Makenzie Consaul was another key player, putting up six points and ten rebounds.

Trinidad's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Sargent, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

The future could be bright for both Trinidad and Sargent: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Trinidad will try to hand Raton their third-straight loss when the two meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Sargent will look to extend Crested Butte's three-game losing streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
