Softball Game Preview: Olympian Eagles vs. Hilltop Lancers

The Olympian Eagles will square off against the Hilltop Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Olympian's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Hilltop has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Saturday. Olympian walked away with a 6-1 victory over Southwest EC. Olympian has beaten Southwest EC the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Southwest EC has come to flipping the script.

Sophia G Aquino spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaiden Liera, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Heaven Mirelez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

Meanwhile, Hilltop came up short against Mar Vista on Friday, falling 10-3.

Catherine Vasquez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off ten hits.

On the hitting side, Hilltop saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maricela Barajas, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Hilltop now has a losing record of 12-13-1. As for Olympian, their win bumped their record up to 11-12-1.

Olympian took their victory against Hilltop when the teams last played last Friday by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
