Basketball Recap: Everton Takes a Loss

Everton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 47-39 to the Niangua Cardinals. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-39 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Everton lost, don't look at Joshua Daniels. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 24 points and 17 boards. That was a full 61.5% of Everton's points, marking the 11th time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Zayn Powers was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Everton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Everton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Niangua, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-7.

Everton and Niangua could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. Everton (ranked 526th) will meet Lockwood (ranked 211th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Niangua (ranked 485th) will meet Crocker (ranked 168th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
