Basketball Recap: Loyola Blakefield Falls Despite Big Games from Jesse Legree and Mason Ellison

Loyola Blakefield was the 43-37 winner over Jesuit when they last played one another back in December of 2014, but their luck changed this time around. The Loyola Blakefield Dons received a blow on Sunday as they fell 68-54 to the Jesuit Blue Jays. While losing is never fun, the Dons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 45th in Maryland, while the Blue Jays are ranked sixth in Louisiana).

Loyola Blakefield's loss came despite strong showings from Mason Ellison and Jesse Legree. Ellison posted 25 points, while Legree put up 16 points. That was a full 46.3% of Loyola Blakefield's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

This is the second loss in a row for Loyola Blakefield and nudges their season record down to 9-6. As for Jesuit, their victory bumped their record up to 14-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Loyola Blakefield will square off against Calvert Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jesuit, they will take on Thibodaux at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
