Gowanda has gone a perfect 10-0 against Brocton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Panthers will face off against the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Gowanda is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Tuesday. Gowanda came out on top against Pine Valley Central by a score of 6-3. The victory was some much needed relief for Gowanda as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Gracie Eddy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Addison Kota was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Helena Wallschlaeger, who earned one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
Gowanda hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Brocton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Silver Creek, falling 18-0.
Brocton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoe Spiller, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Brocton's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Gowanda, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Brocton's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Gowanda has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Brocton, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Gowanda keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Gowanda took their win against Brocton when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 17-8 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
