Mater Dei a consensus No. 1, but Texas 6A Division I finals could spoil Monarchs' plan for repeat National Championship.
With one week left in the 2018 football season, it comes down to Texas.
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) is the consensus No. 1, with all five rankings services in the Composite Top 25 choosing the Monarchs for the top spot. However, No. 4 North Shore (Houston) and No. 5 Duncanville (Texas) meet Saturday for the UIL Texas 6A Division I state championship.
A resounding win by either? Well, that might be enough to leapfrog Mater Dei. But we shall see.
Meanwhile, Milton (Ga.) joins the Composite Top 25 at No. 21 after its Georgia AAAAAAA state title win over Colquitt County (Norman Park, Ga.).
Only schools recognized by two or more media outlets are eligible for
inclusion in the composite rankings. Teams were assigned a score of 40
for each media outlet that did not recognize them as part of their Top
25, rewarding teams that received consensus acclaim.
