Recap: Glendale Prep Academy Griffins vs. Tanque Verde Hawks
It was a good run, but The Glendale Prep Academy Griffins unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 30-3 loss at the hands of Tanque Verde. Having soared to a lofty 54 points in the game before, Glendale Prep Academy couldn't push the score so high this time.
Despite the loss, Glendale Prep Academy still got an impressive performance from Nickolas Cummings, who rushed for 108 yards on only 13 carries.
Gavin Gilbert was his usual excellent self, rushing for 206 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Gilbert hasn't dropped below sixsolo tackles for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Michael Mckenna, who rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Glendale Prep Academy to a paltry 170 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Tanque Verde's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Eli Clausen and his three sacks.
Glendale Prep Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Tanque Verde, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.
Glendale Prep Academy will be playing at home against Cortez at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Cortez is ranked 160th, while Glendale Prep Academy is ranked 170th). As for Tanque Verde, they will head out on the road to face off against Benson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
