Preview: Smith Academy Fighting 54th vs. Cambridge City Lincoln Golden Eagles
Smith Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Cambridge City Lincoln Golden Eagles at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Smith Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Smith Academy suffered their biggest defeat since December 2, 2023 on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 58-21 loss at the hands of Fort Wayne HomeSchool. While losing is never fun, Smith Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 452nd, while Fort Wayne HomeSchool is ranked 68th).
Meanwhile, Cambridge City Lincoln's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 78-45 defeat at the hands of Northeastern. Cambridge City Lincoln was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-21.
Smith Academy's defeat was their 11th straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.5 points per game. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Smith Academy came up short against Cambridge City Lincoln when the teams last played back in February of 2019, falling 74-62. Can Smith Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
