Volleyball Recap: Layton Comes Up Short

Layton and American Fork squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Layton had to settle for second. They came up short against the Cavemen, falling 3-0. The Lancers' loss continues a trend for the team, making it eight in a row.

While Layton ultimately came up short, they really made American Fork work, particularly in the third set. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-7, 26-24.

Sam Pizarro Guiral paced Layton's offense, picking up eight kills. Pizarro Guiral got some help from Ben Peterson and his eight assists.

Leading American Fork to victory were Evan Olmstead and Jarett Santiago. Olmstead had ten digs and five assists, while Santiago had six digs, two aces, and one block. Olmstead has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 19 times he's played.

Layton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-19. As for American Fork, their record is now 8-15.

Layton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for American Fork, they will square off against Westlake at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. The Thunder will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Cavemen surely won't give up without a fight.
