Baseball Recap: Calvary Christian Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Non Varsity Opponent last Tuesday, Calvary Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Calvary Christian Academy Lions fell 7-4 to the Warner Christian Academy Eagles on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

Joel Gornto and Cruze McLean were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. Throwing, Gornto struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, McLean tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gornto has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Gornto scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while McLean went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those RBI marked the first that McLean brought in this season.

In other batting news, Logan Kitzke made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.

Calvary Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Warner Christian Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Calvary Christian Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Geneva at 4:30 p.m. on March 24th. Warner Christian Academy also won't see the field for a while: their next game is against Taylor at 4:00 p.m. on March 24th. Taylor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
