Recap: Agua Dulce Longhorns vs. Santa Maria Cougars
After a string of six wins, the Agua Dulce Longhorns's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to Santa Maria. Agua Dulce has struggled against Santa Maria recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Agua Dulce saw an underclassman step up: Benny Espinoza scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Cadena, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Agua Dulce's loss dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Santa Maria, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Agua Dulce will square off against Premont at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Santa Maria, they will head out on the road to take on La Villa at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. La Villa is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
