Basketball Recap: Emilee Bacon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sacred Heart Academy over Cardinal O'hara

Sacred Heart Academy lost against Cardinal O'Hara back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Sacred Heart Academy Sharks took a 53-38 bruising from the Cardinal O'Hara Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Sharks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while the Hawks are ranked 26th).

Several Sharks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emilee Bacon, who posted 11 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. Bacon has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Makenna Chamberlain, who earned 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Sacred Heart Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Cardinal O'Hara's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyla Hayes, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. Hayes also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Cardinal O'Hara is 13-4 when she posts at least three steals, but 1-3 otherwise. Elonna McGriff was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Sacred Heart Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Cardinal O'Hara, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-7.

Sacred Heart Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-12 win against Sweet Home on the 7th. As for Cardinal O'Hara, they have also already played their next contest, a 62-41 victory against Randolph on the 8th.
