Preview: Stansbury Stallions vs. Cottonwood Colts
Stansbury has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Cottonwood Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Tuesday, Stansbury came up short against Jordan and fell 70-63.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Will Stephens, who scored 16 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Rich, who scored 16 points.
Even though they lost, Stansbury were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. This was only their ninth loss (out of 12 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, Cottonwood waltzed into their game on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down Hillcrest 68-51. That looming 68-51 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Cottonwood yet this season.
Cottonwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Peter Oguama, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Ryan Nielson, who scored 14 points.
Stansbury's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Cottonwood, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Thursday's match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Aidan Pehrson and John Rosevear. Pehrson has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 11.2 points and 2.4 assists. For his part, Rosevear has averaged 16.5 points, 1.6 steals, and 4.4 rebounds.
