Baseball Game Preview: Mathews Blue Devils vs. Nandua Warriors

The Mathews Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Nandua Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Mathews' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.

On Thursday, Mathews got the win against West Point by a conclusive 16-6. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Pointers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Michael Wiatt looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.

On the hitting side, Zac Salvadori was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Blake Hunley was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Mathews was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Nandua came up short against Windsor on Thursday and fell 7-4.

The win got Mathews back to even at 5-5. As for Nandua, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 5-5.

Mathews couldn't quite get it done against Nandua when the teams last played back in April of 2022 as they fell 7-2. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
