Basketball Recap: Legion Collegiate Academy Comes Up Short

Legion Collegiate Academy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 72-71 heartbreaker at the hands of the Life Prep Fire.

Legion Collegiate Academy lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being LaKiara Alexander, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. Alexander has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amelia Williams, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 20 points.

Even though they lost, Legion Collegiate Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Legion Collegiate Academy's loss dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Life Prep, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.

Legion Collegiate Academy has already played their next game (against Legacy Early College), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Life Prep will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Highland Park at 7:00 p.m. on February 20th.
