Basketball Game Preview: Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves vs. Chamberlain Cubs

The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves will square off against the Chamberlain Cubs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cheyenne-Eagle Butte has three straight wins, Chamberlain has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Friday, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte strolled past Pine Ridge with points to spare, taking the game 72-57.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte found their leader in sophomore Suni Bowman, who dropped a double-double with 33 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bowman has scored at least a third of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte's points. Another player making a difference was Alisa Eberhard, who posted 13 points and seven boards.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Chamberlain was beaten by West Central 74-24 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Cubs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Trojans are ranked 33rd).

The victory got Cheyenne-Eagle Butte back to even at 10-10. As for Chamberlain, their loss dropped their record down to 3-16.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte beat Chamberlain 53-42 when the teams last played back in January. Will Cheyenne-Eagle Butte repeat their success, or does Chamberlain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
