League recap: Hughes wins, gets boost in standings

AAAAAA Region 3 recap September 10, 2013

Hughes was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to second in AAAAAA Region 3. Earlier in the week, the Panthers triumphed over Luella 35-0.

Douglas County moved up to 105 from 189 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of beating South Cobb 31-6.

Douglas County's dynamic duo of Jared Askew and Justin Bridges proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Askew threw for 140 yards and Bridges had 60 yards receiving.

Jason Respert's team's dynamic duo of Askew and Bridges proved to be unstoppable against South Cobb, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Keion Davis was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 121 yards as Hughes defeated Michael Youngblood's team. Kinan Humphrey also contributed to the rushing game with 27 yards on the ground.

Askew put up the best numbers through the air as Douglas County bested the Eagles.

Bridges was the best wideout in AAAAAA Region 3 this week as the Tigers topped South Cobb.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Douglas County's Askew and Bridges have proven to be a lethal combination. Askew has thrown for 301 yards this season, while Bridges has 9 catches for 179 yards. Willie Cannon's team's Davis leads the league in rushing yards with 344.

The Panthers took down the Lions 35-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Davis caught 1 passes for 25 yards in the win.
