Softball Game Preview: Winchester Red & Black vs. Waltham Hawks

Winchester has gone a perfect 5-0 against Waltham recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Red & Black will head out on the road to face off against the Hawks at 4:00 p.m. Winchester has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Winchester is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Arlington just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 19-5 to the Spy Ponders. The game marked the Red & Black's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Winchester saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gwen Gaiko, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Waltham fell victim to Acton-Boxborough and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Revolution, falling 12-0. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Revolution recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Waltham's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Winchester, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 3-2.

Winchester took their victory against Waltham in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-2 score. Will the Red & Black repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
