After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Castro Valley, Berkeley was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They skirted past the San Leandro Pirates 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Yellowjackets: when they faced off against the Pirates back in March, they had to take a 3-0 loss.
Berkeley wouldn't go down easily and took San Leandro into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 15-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-8.
Satchel Room paced Berkeley's offense, picking up 25 kills. Room got some help from Sebastian Chen-McDermott and his 33 assists. Room also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Nawoo Kim, racking up three apiece.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eric Stowe, who had 19 digs and two aces. With that strong performance, Stowe is now averaging an impressive 10 digs per game.
Berkeley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-12. As for San Leandro, they moved to 16-9 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
As of now, neither Berkeley nor the Pirates have any future games scheduled.
