Basketball Game Preview: Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls vs. Las Cruces Bulldawgs

The Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Las Cruces Bulldawgs at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Carlsbad is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Carlsbad is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Mayfield, who was ranked sixth at the time (Carlsbad was ranked 19th). Carlsbad fell to Mayfield 31-25. The contest marked the Cavemen/Cavegirls' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 64 points the game before, Las Cruces was a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They were beaten by Hobbs 75-24. The Bulldawgs have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Danae Pacheco was Las Cruces' leading scorer, having posted eight points. Sofia Herrera held things down on the boards with five rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Carlsbad's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5. As for Las Cruces, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.

Carlsbad was dealt a bruising 63-35 defeat at the hands of Las Cruces in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Carlsbad avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
