Basketball Game Preview: Morgan Township Cherokees vs. Kouts Mustangs & Fillies

The Morgan Township Cherokees will face off against the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Morgan Township needed a bit of extra time to put away South Central. They came out on top against the Satellites by a score of 57-45. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Cherokees considering their 23-point performance the game before.

Morgan Township's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josie Lemmons led the charge by going 7 for 10 on her way to 19 points and three steals. Lemmons is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Wasz, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Kouts was able to grind out a solid victory over DeMotte Christian on Thursday, taking the game 52-41. The win was all the more spectacular given the Mustangs & Fillies 's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Knights are ranked 104th).

Kouts' victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6. As for Morgan Township, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Morgan Township didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Kouts when the teams last played back in February, but they still walked away with a 28-24 win. Will Morgan Township repeat their success, or does Kouts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
