Basketball Recap: Sumner Comes Up Short

Sumner suffered their closest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Calais Blue Devils by a score of 59-56. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-49 back in December of 2024.

This is the second loss in a row for Sumner and nudges their season record down to 8-6. As for Calais, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sumner has already played their next contest (against Machias), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Calais will take on Jonesport-Beals at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Calais has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.
