Baseball Recap: Carroll Comes Up Short

If Carroll was riding high fresh off their 10-0 takedown of Columbia City on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chargers fell just short of the Leo Lions by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chargers of the 5-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Evan Rinehart was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Zavier Edgar was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Braden Christlieb also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Carroll dropped their record down to 3-4 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 2.5 runs. As for Leo, the win keeps they at an undefeated 5-0.

Coming up, Carroll will square off against DeKalb at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Barons will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Leo, they will face off against Bluffton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
