Basketball Recap: Churchill County Greenwave vs. Lowry Buckaroos
On Friday, the Churchill County Greenwave faced the Lowry Buckaroos in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Churchill County took a 52-34 bruising from the Buckaroos. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Churchill County in their matchups with the Buckaroos: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the defeat, Churchill County saw an underclassman step up: Jada Anastasio scored 15 points. That was a full 44.1% of Churchill County's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Leading Lowry to victory were Britain Backus and Savannah Stoker. Backus scored 21 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Stoker dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Backus has scored at least a third of Lowry's points.
Churchill County's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6. As for Lowry, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Churchill County will take on the Dust Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dayton is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak. As for Lowry, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vaqueros at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
