Softball Recap: Athens Takes a Loss

Athens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hazel Green Trojans. If the Golden Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Trojans when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lily Lowery made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Tedford, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Hazel Green, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-6.

Coming up, Athens will welcome Madison Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Golden Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hazel Green, they are taking a road trip to challenge Austin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
