Basketball Recap: Middle College Comes Up Short

Middle College played a tough matchup on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Firebaugh Falcons, falling 75-35. The Cougars were down 55-25 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Middle College saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Haidyn Lakey dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Lakey a new career-high in blocks (five). Another player making a difference was Zachary Bennett, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

Middle College's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Firebaugh, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Middle College will head out to square off against Stella High Charter Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Middle College is facing Stella High Charter Academy at the right time seeing as Stella High Charter Academy is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Firebaugh, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Compton at 6:00 p.m. Firebaugh will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: Compton will have lost eight straight heading into Monday's contest.
