Baseball Recap: Plattsmouth Snags Sixth Victory in Last Eight Games

Plattsmouth was handed a 15-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Nebraska City Pioneers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Devils have posted since March 31st.

Jacob Longton tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cody Demboski was incredible, going 3-for-6 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Winters, who scored two runs while going 1-for-6.

Plattsmouth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Plattsmouth is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Nebraska City, they dropped their record down to 3-11 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Plattsmouth is set to face off against their familiar foe Malcolm at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Nebraska City will square off against rival Platte Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
