Basketball Recap: Alex Caza's Big Game Can't Quite Lead NCSSM: Durham over Durham Academy

NCSSM: Durham lost against Durham Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The matchup between the Unicorns and the Cavaliers didn't end well, with the Unicorns falling 70-51. The contest marked the Unicorns' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Several Unicorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alex Caza, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 13 points and eight boards. Caza has also been stellar as far as field goal percentage is concerned: he's posted one of at least 45% every time he's hit the court this season. Jay Peng was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Durham Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malcolm McNeill, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. With that strong performance, McNeill is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Jack Simpson also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, NCSSM: Durham fell to 7-1. As for Durham Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

NCSSM: Durham didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-59 win against Research Triangle on the 3rd. As for Durham Academy, they will take on Charlotte Latin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
