Baseball Recap: Taft Takes a Loss

Taft dropped down to 12-13 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Brennan Bears, falling 12-2. The Raiders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 6-4.

Eduardo Toral was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Aaden Daniels also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Brennan, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Brennan's side, Shepard Morris tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Morris has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luis Roman, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Gonzalez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Taft will face off against O'Connor at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brennan, they will square off against Warren at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
