Basketball Game Preview: Desert Christian Eagles vs. St. David Tigers

Desert Christian hasn't had much luck against St. David recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Desert Christian Eagles will head out to take on the St. David Tigers at 2:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Desert Christian played in conference for the first time on Wednesday and they got just the result they we're looking for. They claimed a resounding 48-16 win over San Miguel. The matchup marked the Eagles' most dominant victory of the season.

Desert Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Priscilla Genteman led the charge by putting up nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Welch, who posted six points and five steals.

Meanwhile, St. David posted their biggest win since December 11, 2024 on Friday. They really took it to The Gregory School for the full four quarters, racking up a 53-23 victory. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Hawks are ranked 248th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. David's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Desert Christian, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-9.

Desert Christian took a serious blow against St. David when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 47-16. Can Desert Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
