Football Recap: Friona Runs Past Spearman

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Slaton, Friona was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 40-29 victory over the Spearman Lynx. This was payback for the Chieftans, who suffered a 43-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Aaron Rosales had a dynamite game, rushing for 123 yards and three scores, while also throwing for 87 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Friona was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 353 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2024.

Spearman lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Hudson Swan, who picked up 63 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 67 yards.

The win got Friona back to even at 1-1. As for Spearman, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Friona has already played their next matchup, a 48-28 loss against Wellington on the 12th. As for Spearman, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-26 victory against Hooker on the 12th.
