The Clover Hill Cavaliers will square off against the Prince George Royals at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Clover Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Midlothian hit Clover Hill with a four-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cavaliers lost 14-4 to the Trojans. The defeat continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost eight in a row.
Alejandra Wittman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayla Wright, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Prince George had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Skyhawks as they made off with an 18-1 win. The Royals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Kaylee Moody was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Kasey Sulc was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Kaitlyn Hacker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Prince George always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .559 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Prince George's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Clover Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Clover Hill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like Prince George struggles in that department as they've averaged .548. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clover Hill was able to grind out a solid victory over Prince George in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 19-15. Do the Cavaliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Royals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
