Recap: Leesville Road Pride vs. Broughton Capitals
There's no place like home for the Leesville Road Pride, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 50-38 win over Broughton on Tuesday. Given Leesville Road's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Broughton is ranked 301st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leesville Road found their leader in underclassman Chloe Fulk, who scored 16 points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Fulk scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Peyton Moye, who scored eight points.
Despite the loss, Broughton still got an impressive performance from Kalajah Wright, who scored 20 points along with six steals. Wright has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Kyra Gustus was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five steals.
Leesville Road pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.7 points per game. As for Broughton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Leesville Road will take on Cardinal Gibbons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cardinal Gibbons focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday. As for Broughton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sanderson is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
