Basketball Recap: Caleb Hill's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Westover Christian Academy over Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot

Westover Christian Academy suffered their closest defeat since February 9th on Friday. They fell just short of the Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights by a score of 62-59. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caleb Hill, who went 5 of 10 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds. Hill has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Malachi Waller, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to five boards and three blocks.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but John Loftin led the charge by going 7 of 15 on his way to 24 points along with six rebounds and five assists. With that strong performance, Loftin is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Hamner, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Westover Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Westover Christian Academy and Faith Christian Academy will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Westover Christian Academy is facing Faith Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Faith Christian Academy is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on King & Queen Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
